Drinking games tend to be something invented in the spur of the moment. There is not usually a difficult concept behind them, but they are a heck of a lot of fun. Quarters is one of those classic drinking games that has been around forever. Everyone knows about it and everyone wants to play it.
***below-paragraph-1.shtml***This is not your run of the mill drinking game, though. Quarters actually takes some skill. If you don't want to lose then you have to be coordinated and have some skills at bouncing a quarter into a cup. Of course, the whole point of the game is to be bad at it so you can drink as much as possible. That is what makes this game so much fun - most people suck at it, so in the end there are a bunch of really drunk people throwing quarters at a table. That, my friend, is why quarters is a game you must know how to play.
You don't need much to play quarters. This is just another thing that makes this such a kick ass game. You need a quarter and a cup or shot glass. You also need a table, preferably one with some clear space on it so you can bounce the quarter.
To set up the game you simply place the cup in the center of the table or at the far end of the table from where the players will be. The first player will take the quarter and try to bounce it off the table and into the cup. If they miss then they drink. The next player goes and so on and so forth. Pretty simple.
There are not many rules to this game. You just have to bounce the quarter off the table and into the cup. The quarter must bounce off the table. You can't throw it in the cup. That would be too easy. There are some variations to this game, though, that can really make it more challenging and a whole lot more fun.
A simple variation is that in some games the cup actually has alcohol in it. If the player doesn't make the quarter in the cup then they drink the alcohol in the cup. In the variations without alcohol in the cup, players just drink whatever they are already drinking. Usually beer is the drink of choice since it can be consumed rather easily in large amounts and the effects really hit a person's coordination and ability to play the game.
In another variation there may be more than one cup as the game progresses. A new cup may be added in each round. The person has to get the quarters in all the cups or they must drink the number of drinks for the ones they missed. For example, if there are 5 cups and the player misses on all of the cups then they must drink five times.
Yet another variation is where all players sit around the table. Each person gets the chance to bounce the quarter in the cup. Whoever is the first to get the quarter in the cup chooses who must drink.
As you can see there are many ways to play quarters. It really doesn't matter how you play the game it will always be a fun time. In the end you will all walk away from the table feeling pretty buzzed and isn't that the real goal of any drinking game?
