The Horse Race drinking game may be a little complex in the beginning, so make sure to start this game sober. Once you run through the basics you should be able to start playing and catch on easily. It seems hard at the start, but this game is very easy once you start playing and really doesn't take a lot of skill.
It is a game of chance, just like a horse race. The name however doesn't come from the fact it is a game of chance. The name comes from how the game is played. You will see once you learn the game.
***below-paragraph-1.shtml***All you need for this game is a deck of cards, some alcohol and a table. You need a group of players. A minimum of two players are needed, but the game is best with at least 4 players. However, the more the merrier, as with any drinking game.
To set up the horse race game you need to remove all the kings, queens and aces from the deck. Line up all the aces in a row across the table, then line up the queens and kings in a line going up or down the table next to the aces.
(Or as show in the pic, you can use any set of cards and lie 'em face down next to the Aces)
The aces become the horses in this race. The kings and queens represent the spaces that the "horses" will move in the race.
Each player must bet on which horse they think will win the race by suit. Once everyone has placed their bets the game starts. See below about the variations in how bets are placed.
To play the Horse Race drinking game cards are flipped from the top of the deck of remaining cards. Whatever suit the card is allows that suits ace card to advance ahead one space. The first "horse" to reach the last king or queen card wins the race. All betters who bet on that horse win.
Some games have variations where the cards representing the places can be any eight cards, not just kings and queens. Also in some games there is an added element where the first time a horse reaches the space, those that bet on the horse that matches the suit of that place card must take one drink and their horse must go back one space. This rule helps ensure everyone gets to drink a lot and it adds some excitement.
Games may be played differently. In some games when players place their bets they must bet in numbers of drinks. To place their bet they must drink half of whatever they drink. In other games players simply choose which "horse" to bet on.
Wins are also dealt with in different ways. In some games the winning player gets to give out 20 drinks to other players, second gives out 15 and third gives out 10. In games where bets are placed using drinks, the player or players who choose the winning "horse" give out the drinks they bet and all the other players must drink whatever they bet.
