Cocktail Party

Cocktail Party

Back in the 1960's and maybe even into the 1970's, you would have always found yourself at a cocktail party. Now, even though this kind of party adventure died out a little over the past couple of decades, it is back with vengeance, thanks in part to you restlessly dedicated college students out there in pursuit of a good time. ;-) This is certainly a fun party to throw, especially if you want to ask all the guests to dress in their 60's finest!

Staples Of A Cocktail Party

Wine is nice and beer is okay, but you aren't going to have much of a party to brag about unless you have a wide assortment of mixed drinks. Think of all of the gaudiest mixed drinks you can think of and have them on hand. Think "Cosmopolitan", "Chocolate Martini", "Dirty Martini", and even the infamous "Apple Martini" and you will be all set. This will not only help set the mood of the party but it will certainly be a learning experience for everyone. Who ever said that old fashioned mixed drinks were for the old folks?

You also don't want to forget about the food. However, you want to remember that a cocktail party is about the drink, not about the food. Keep it light and fresh. Strawberries, olives and cheese and crackers will put something in the stomach of your guests while allowing them to have plenty of room for more cocktails!

Get Some Help

If you are not planning on mixing all of the drinks yourself, consider hiring someone to play bartender for the night. This is to ensure that everyone will get all the cocktails they could ever want, AND to get it right. Have plenty of vodka, wine, beer, tequila, bourbon, rum, gin, sherry, brandy and vermouth on hand. To make the job of the bartender easier, also have orange juice, ginger ale, tonic, soda, tomato juice, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce and of course, lemons and limes.

Be Responsible

Even though you are setting out to have the time of your life, cocktail parties of the 60's always seemed to be full of people who were responsible, cool and casual. You want to make sure that your guests have plenty of options for their drinks, but you also want to make sure that there is a way to get home safely, or a place to crash for the night.
