Blacklight Party

blacklight party

Nothing brings people together like a steamy hot dark room illuminated with black light. The blacklight party is a great way to get your friends dancing and spacing out to the occasional flicker of the strobe. A good black light party is like a vision from some extraterrestrial future in your own living room. It should incorporate as many decorations as possible while allowing your guests to get as creative as they want. Get out the bleach and paints and go crazy. It's time for a blacklight party!

Blacklight Attire

Most casual clothing is fine for a black light party. You won't be able to see any fancy costumes people are wearing anyway. This being so, you can still tell your guests to get creative and thinking about clothing that might look cool under a black light. White colored clothes show the best, so any clothing that has white patterns could turn out to be interesting at your party. Or if your guests are adventurous, they can just come semi nude with black light body paint for cover.

The Setting

The best place to set up your blacklights and such is your living room, or the most spacious room. But you can't just start a blacklight party once the sun goes down. You have to prepare the room by moving all of your sofas and coffee tables into the basement or into your other rooms. Be sure you remove all valuable and delicate items. You will also want to get rid of as much extra light as you can. If you don't have blinds on your windows, find some and cover all of them up. Even at night, distracting extra light can still flood in from cars passing by or from street lamps. Reduce this by sealing up all the windows.

The coolest thing about blacklight parties is that you can use glow-in-the-dark paints to decorate every nook and cranny in your living room. Get your guests involved and have them create pictures for your walls while they paint themselves and their friends. Keep a stock of glow sticks and glow rings on hand to pass out to your guests as they enter the room. You can even paint spacey images with detergent on your walls. It won't show in ordinary light, but it will be very clear when the lights are out and the blacklight is on. You can find glow sticks, black lights, strobe light, and other glow in the dark items at the partizzle store or ebay.

On a final note, keep some fast-paced party music going all night long. Dancing is one of the best parts of blacklight parties. With a dazzling array of fresh beats, you'll get huge rowdy crowds and everyone will want to stay until the sun comes up. So keep the upbeat music hopping. People will be talking for weeks about how much fun they had and how they didn't wake up until 4 P.M. the next day.
