Barnyard Bash

If you're a little bit country or you just can't get that Taylor Swift song out of your head, the barnyard bash might be for you. Get your friends together and act like yokels for the night. Start chugging PBR and square dancing on a bed of hay. Challenge your friends to bob for apples, and take as many pictures imitating the American Gothic painting as you can. As everyone gets more drunk and the antics keep building, the fun level goes through the roof. All in all, the barnyard party is a fun way to enjoy a summer's evening and see a side of your friends you haven't seen before.

How To Dress

Costumes are a must at a barnyard bash. Men should be dressed up in torn jeans and straw hats. The ideal women's costume wouldn't be all too different from Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Just get a picnic blanket and transform it into a skirt. Throw some hay into your hair and keep it together with a few sticks. At least one guy at the party should go for the classic scarecrow look and stuff himself completely with hay. We know this isn't a Wizard of Oz party, but imagine how funny it will be to watch your friend squirming around with itchy hay all night.

Setting

A good barnyard bash takes advantage of the great outdoors. The more farm-like you can make your backyard, the more fun it will be for your guests. Plus, we imagine you will be getting very very dirty at this party. It's probably better to keep all of that dirt outside of your house. In fact, if it is warm enough to hold the entire party outside, that would be the best option. After all, it is a barn "yard" bash. If it starts to move inside, it will start to lose its real intent and you'll be spending the next few days cleaning hay out of your sofa.

Drinking Games

The barnyard bash also works best with a few drinking games. You have a lot of options here. A version of darts where guests throw them at pumpkins (with targets painted on 'em) can be a lot of fun. Pin the tail on the scarecrow is also a popular one, and you can make the losers shotgun beers if you're really going for it that night. Heck, if you have a large group, you can bring back your elementary school days and play Red Rover. That's sure to be a riot when everyone is wasted and wearing torn up jeans.

Tips

Before you start your barnyard bash, make sure you get at least a little hay. It is a very important element that tells your guests that you are serious about looking the part. The best place to buy hay when you live in the city is at your local pet store. You don't have to go hog wild with it, just buy enough to decorate the backyard. Also, pumpkins and other gourds give off the farmyard impression. Buy as many as you are comfortable with. At your barnyard party, you can get as creative as you would like. If you want to add in a few pitch forks, go crazy. There's nothing like bringing back the days of 'ol ma and pa.
