Around The World Theme Party

An Around The World theme party is all about experiencing some international flavor without actually having to go anywhere. You get to party in the comfort of your own local party house, and just roam around and have fun!

Setting

Setup each room of your house like a different country from around the world. You can start by putting up the countries' flags (or at least a banner with the country's name on it) on the walls, then decorate each room as much as you see fit, according to the look and feel of the designated countries.

The simplest way to decorate would be to just use the colors from each country's flag to create a theme for each room. Then spread out some travel brochures and some well know produces from that country around the room. The produces can be the type of clothing they wear, the tools they use, accessories they're known for, objects you'd find there, etc... anything that you'd most likely associate with that country.

What Else To Consider... Alcohol!

Although you can just throw a normal kegger with this party theme, an 'Around the World' theme party is meant to be set up with the authentic foods and/or drinks of the various countries too, so you get the full experience. Especially the alcohol! That's the fun part! So if your finances allow... deck out the designated rooms with the imported beers, liquors and authentic foods from the original countries.

For example, if you got a room setup as Mexico, you can load up a table in that room with tacos, burritos, enchiladas and such, for food; then for drinks, you can get some beers like Corona and Negro Modelo, or other alcoholic drinks like margaritas and tequila, etc.

• Scotland - for scotch lovers
• Russia - for Vodka
• Hawaii - for tropical mixed drinks and fruity drinks
• Ireland - for Guinness
• Japan - for sake
• etc

If you don't have as much money to splurge... but still wanna experience the different countries' flavors in each room, you can throw the Around the World theme party with just the authentic beers in each room, instead of all the hard liquors, mixed drinks, and the whole shebang. The beers are still good enough and it'd drastically reduce the cost... because all the hard liquors, mixed drinks, and food for this type of party do tend to skyrocket the bill pretty high. (But they are well worth it if you can manage it!)

How to Dress

Most people end up wearing normal clothes for this theme party because, either, A - the host doesn't specify dressing up, or B - people just don't know what to wear since it's such a global theme... so they take that to mean wear whatever they want. But the dedicated party animals should know better! If you wanna go all out, deck it out!

This is probably the most versatile costume party (if you decide to make it a costume party), because you can pretty much wear any getup from around the world. But here are some popular costume ideas:

• Dress as sailors/pirates (or even military) - they all travel around the world
• Go with your cultural heritage - if your family originally came from Italy, then go with that! It can be as simple as wearing a black & white horizontally-striped t-shirt... or if you've got a Scottish background, then wear a kilt... or just wear your country flag colors, etc.
• Go as a tourist - put on some tourist like clothes with a binocular or camera with a strap around your neck, etc
• Dress up as a flight attendant (or some other profession which involves a lot of traveling)
• Or if all else fails, just pick a country you like, and dress in their traditional clothes :P
