A Midsummer Nights Dream Party

A Midsummer Nights Dream theme party is all about love, lust, and sexy fairies! A fairytale from the works of William Shakespeare. This theme was made into a popular party theme by Hugh Hefner and his Playboy party entourage. The Playboy mansion now throws it as an annual event.

How to Dress

You can either go as the supernatural characters or the renaissance characters from the story.

Most people at these parties dress up as fairies. Guys as the mischievous fairies and the chicks as the seductive fairies. Or if you want to be really unique, you can also go as the Hobgoblin (another supernatural being from the story).

If you go as the regular folk, you gotta dress in the Renaissance fashion... Dukes, queens, commoners, peasants, jesters, etc.

(You can also do a masquerade or lingerie twist in the theme.)

Setting

You can go several different ways with the decorations and the setting... but it should have some sort of fairytale or renaissance type theme. One way to go about it is to have a moonlit forest setting (in the story, this is where the fairies inhabit). If you wanna go all out, you can do it up with some plants, makeshift vines and forest decorations all around the house. Or if you got a backyard with plenty of plants and trees... work that and party outside! But it's best to throw this party in late spring or early fall... as close to summer as possible.

Other decoration ideas:

• Use a color theme (gold, silver, and midnight blue)
• Glitter (fairy dust)
• Candles
• Bowls of water with floating rose pedals, lily pads, etc
• Confetti
• Dry ice machine for mist
• Goblets (to drink out of or to set with water and rose pedals, etc)
